Georgia Healthy Start ยท Father Movement
Maternal & Infant
Health Program
When fathers show up during pregnancy and early childhood, families thrive. We equip expecting and new dads to be the support their partners and babies need โ from prenatal care through early development.
Our Approach
Healthy Moms Need Present Dads.
Our Maternal & Infant Health programs are rooted in one belief โ when mothers and fathers are both supported, families thrive. We provide comprehensive care for expectant and new parents, with a strong focus on maternal health, reducing stress, and ensuring healthier birth outcomes.
Research shows that fathers' active involvement leads to better birth outcomes. Supportive dads help moms access prenatal care, reduce stress, and contribute to healthier pregnancies with fewer complications. Their presence also strengthens early childhood development and family well-being.
The Research Is Clear
Why Fathers Matter in Maternal Health
A father's presence during pregnancy isn't just emotional โ it's medical.
Better Prenatal Care
When fathers are engaged, mothers are significantly more likely to attend prenatal appointments, follow medical guidance, and avoid high-risk behaviors during pregnancy.
Reduced Stress
Maternal stress is one of the leading causes of premature birth. A present, supportive father reduces cortisol levels, lowers anxiety, and creates a healthier environment for mom and baby.
Stronger Early Development
Children with engaged fathers in their earliest months develop stronger cognitive skills, better emotional regulation, and a healthier attachment to both parents.
